CEO of Rainbow Talent Agency, LLC (RTA) and Founder of RnB Classics Live: located in Rochester, New York, Carl has been in the entertainment business since 1969 and has managed and booked the some of the biggest names in the music business. A member of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP), Carl has developed business relationships with major booking agencies in the United States, Canada and Europe including the most renowned management companies in the US.
RTA has served as a booking agency, talent buyer, concert producer, production & staging director, set designer and event management; producing shows internationally for over 25 years. The agency has extensive experience with performance offers, contracts and national & international tours. RTA has significant associations with promoters, performing arts centers, theatres and festivals across the United States & Canada.
Festivals that Carl has worked with include SunFest in Palm Beach Florida, Lilac Festival in Rochester, NY, Festa Italia in east Rochester, NY, Arts & Music Festival, Canandaigua, NY, and the Biker-Bash Weekend, (Toys for Tots) Fort Lauderdale, FL, to name a few.
Venues include the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Mohegan Sun Casino, “The Joint” at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, La Mirada Theatre in La Mirada California, The King Center in Melbourne Florida and Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Hollywood and Tampa, FL. Extensive experience in production design staging, lighting, sound production, for night clubs, outdoor events and complete theatre restoration including The Second Temple church built in 1925 as the Temple Building at 14 Franklin St. completed in 1986 and renamed The Renaissance Theatre a 1400 capacity Music Hall, most recently The Rapids Theatre on Main St. in Niagara Falls NY formally Shea’s Bellevue Theatre built in 1921 a 2 year renovation completed in 2009 is currently the premier concert hall in upstate NY capacity 1600
Musical Director of RnB Classics Live: A Rochester native, Mike Van Allen has been a Professor of Jazz Studies here at Roberts Wesleyan College since 2003 where he teaches courses in jazz theory/improvisation and history, as well as private lessons. He also directs the jazz combo and jazz ensemble.
Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in music at Binghamton University in 1996 studying under jazz director Al Hamme, and his Masters in Jazz Piano Performance at New York University in 1999. His principal teacher at NYU was Grammy winning arranger and composer Jim McNeely, pianist for the world renowned Village Vanguard Orchestra. Other teachers that Mike worked with at NYU include such jazz greats as pianists Mike Holober, Don Friedman, Ted Rosenthal, Michael Weiss, and Pete Malinverni, bassists Ron McClure and Mike Richmond, and saxophonists Ralph LaLamma and Jon Gunther.
After grad school, Mike spent a year honing his piano skills while performing on a cruise ship for Celebrity Cruises. Upon returning to NYC, he formed his own jazz quintet which recorded an album in 2001 and was performed live on Rochester’s jazz radio station, 90.1fm. During this time Mike also began directing and arranging for a cappella groups, winning national awards for best arrangement of a song in 2002 and runner-up for best collegiate arranged album in 1999, the Binghamton Crosbys’ “Super Bo’s”. Currently, Mike performs with the Jive Street 5, the Mark Cassara band, and Fishbone Soup. He just finished recording a CD with Al Chez, trumpeter for David Letterman’s Tonight Show.
